THE ART OF MAKING MEANING
Writing, like coaching, is about observation, about experimentation, about allowing stories to evolve as the characters in them confront life. When I started Frable, writing was a business need; something I needed to do privately to carve out our philosophy, as well as an act I needed to engage in publicly to share what we were trying to do and reach those we aimed to serve.
Recently, I began a Master of Fine Arts at Savannah College of Art & Design to create the intentional space in my life to work on writing as a craft. I’m shifting my focus away from non-fiction to literary fiction for the foreseeable future. Every now and then I’ll still write pieces for platforms whose audience could benefit from the impact of the Frable community; but I’m also making an intentional choice to resist the urge to self-publish the fiction I’ll be working on over the next few years.
I deeply believe the future of work rests on building diversified careers focused on craft. I will continue to work towards mastery in Coaching, but now I also strive to work towards mastery in Writing. Teaching will be next, and after teaching there will be something else.
I do this for me, but I also do it to constantly remain aware of the challenges our clients face in making the courageous decision to do the hard work required to build a meaning-rich professional life.
